Designed to protect guide-ways and machine components and constructed using lightweight material, bellows are ideal for fast travel applications. Their high compression ratio also makes them ideal in limited space.

Bellow types are selected based on the operating conditions - including mechanical and thermal strain on the bellows, as well as the type of chips and agents present during operation.

Hennig has developed lamella bellows to meet particularly tough requirements.

 

This type fills the gap between telescopic steel covers and conventional bellows. The lamella bellows are based on our heat sealed or stitched designs. Each fold has its own guide frame which is secured to the cover material. Lamellas made from stainless steel protect the bellows against red hot, sharp-edged swarf, or mechanical strain

 

Combine the rigidity and durability of [steel way covers] with the compression and flexibility of fabric bellows.

Steel cladded is added to fabric bellows when: Debris is red hot / swarf is razor sharp / space is limited / applications are vertical.

COATED FABRIC BELLOWS

Maximum compression and flexibility in a wide range of materials for a wide range of environments. Industrial coated fabric bellows are great for dust protection, laser machines, and guideways that donʼt see a lot of chip loads.

 

Coated fabric bellows can be assembled using the heat-selaed, glued, or the stitched method. Our bellows can be made as a folded bellow to cover multiple sides, as a flat bellow to cover a single side, or round bellow for protecting shafts and other cylindrical machine components.

 

STEEL CLADDED BELLOWS

MICROFIN BELLOWS

Lightweight, interlocking steel fins connect modularly without requiring a folded bellow for support.

 

Modular design allows for extremely high compression, fast travel, and easy maintenance.  MicroFIN bellows are made from metal plates, so they offer better protection against chips, weld splatter, and hot swarf than coated fabric bellows.

 

MAXIMUM COMPRESSION

Expand your entire machine stroke with microFIN bellows.  Newly designed microFIN plates interlock with each other, enabling a compression of 2.4mm per lamella.

 

ANTI-SCRATCH COATING

A unique coating is added to each fin to prevent scratching, which significantly increases the life of the cover (up to 70%).  Additionaly, the coating increases the seal against coolant and chips (available for lamellas up to 1000 mm wide)

 

EASY MAINTENANCE / PART REPLACEMENT

Each lamella can be replaced individually, meaning the entire system doesn’t have to be removed or disassembled if damage is done to the cover.

 

OPTIONAL FABRIC COVER

For 100% seal against coolants, a fabric cover can be added.  This option has all the compression benefits as the standard microFIN bellow but with better sealing.

These flexible covers are available as a mounted apron or a spring-loaded, retractable roll-up apron. Materials and design are selected based on the environment.

Stabilastic telescoping springs ensure the protection of ball screws, threads and guide columns against dirt, swarf, and mechanical damage.

 

 • Telescopic springs made of hardened high-grade spring steel ensure an excellent protection against dirt, swarf and mechanical damage even when fully extended.  Available in stainless steel upon request.

 

 • Minimum overlap (of the individual windings) of 40%.

 

 • A special manufacturing method and optimal resilience ensure an easy compression and extension.

Horizontal springs have a minimal sag and vertically used springs only a slight lateral deviation.

 

 • Easy assembly by pushing the springs over the

machine parts.

Assembly & Maintenance

The minimum diameter of the take-up collar D3 must not be smaller than indicated. If the inside diameter of the take-up collar D3 is too small, or if the outside diameter of the centering flange D4 is too large, the spring will have a tendency to jam.

 

For horizontal applications, we recommend to install the Stabilastic springs with the large diameter nearest to the swarf accumulation area and for vertical applications, with the large diameter at the top. The maximum deflection in horizontal installations will be approx. 2 – 3% of the maximum mounting length.

TELESCOPIC SPRINGS

STABIFLEX cable conduits are resistant against all coolants and lubricants normally used in the machine tool industry.

 

Three qualities are available (depending on the traverse speed):

 

Quality N

Fitted with a steel band for speeds of v 20 m/min.

 

Quality G

Featuring a steel band fixed with special glue for speeds of v = 20-50m/min.

 

Quality K

Featuring a synthetic band fixed with special glue for speeds of v = 50 m/min.

If no traverse speed is indicated, we automatically choose the N quality.

STABIFLEX cable conduits are moving cable carriers which have proved successful in a wide range of applications in machine tools and machining centers.

 

The main feature of this closed cable carrier is that movement can be limited to one axis due to a steel band fixed to one of the four sides inside the carrier. Movement of the conduit remains stable in all other directions.
